How to Choose a Laundry Franchise in Delhi
Choosing a laundry franchise in Delhi: the eight things to compare before you sign, the Delhi-specific site checks, and the questions to get in writing.
Quick answer: compare terms, not brochures. Before signing with any laundry franchise in Delhi, get the total setup cost itemised, find out exactly when royalty starts, confirm the territory is exclusive and written into the agreement, and check whether the brand runs its own stores. Then judge the site on three-phase power, water and drainage before you judge the rent. An AnyDry dry cleaning and laundry studio is ₹12.97 lakh plus GST for the setup and opens in 21–30 days once the site is finalised.
Why this decision is mostly a paperwork decision
A laundry franchise looks like an equipment decision and is actually a contract decision. The machines are broadly similar across the organised brands. What differs — and what decides whether you make money in year two — is written in the agreement: who gets the territory, when the royalty meter starts, what the brand does for you after month one, and what you are expected to pay at actuals.
So read the agreement before you fall in love with a shop. Everything below is a question to ask, not a feature to admire.
1. Get the cost itemised, not summarised
One headline number tells you nothing. Ask for the split: machines, fit-out, signage, software, launch marketing, training, deposits. Then ask what is specifically not in that number, because civil and interior work is almost always at actuals and working capital is almost always yours.
For reference, an AnyDry studio is ₹12.97 lakh plus GST paid to AnyDry for the setup, which includes a one-time franchise fee for lifetime. Civil and interior work is at actuals, and you should budget roughly three months of working capital on top. Any brand that cannot give you the same breakdown on a page has not done the arithmetic, or does not want you to.
2. Ask when royalty starts, not just what it is
The rate is the number everyone compares. The trigger is the number that matters. A low royalty from day one can cost more than a higher one that begins after the store is paying for itself.
AnyDry charges 8% royalty plus GST, payable only after the store breaks even, with no security deposit. Get the equivalent in writing from everyone on your shortlist — specifically the definition of break-even and who certifies it.
3. Check the territory, in the agreement
Delhi is dense enough that a second store two markets away can take a third of your walk-in business. An exclusive territory with one partner per zone is what protects the customer base you will spend a year building. A verbal assurance is not a territory; a clause with a boundary is.
AnyDry holds one partner per zone and is expanding across Gurugram, Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad and Sonipat.
4. Find out whether the brand runs its own stores
A franchisor that operates its own stores has already met the problems you are about to meet — a machine down on a Saturday, a staff member who leaves in week three, a customer convinced a shirt went missing. One that only sells franchises is learning on your money.
There are 5 AnyDry network stores open in Gurugram and 8 more opening across Delhi NCR, alongside 3 franchise partnerships.
5. Look at the process, not the machine list
Ask to be walked through what happens to one garment, start to finish. The answers worth hearing are specific: garments counted and tagged against a numbered ticket in front of the customer, stains treated by hand at a spotting station before anything goes into a machine, structured garments finished on steam formers, laundry washed one household per load, and a written guarantee if something goes wrong.
That is also your sales pitch later. Customers in Delhi do not change cleaners for a discount; they change because something came back wrong, or did not come back at all. AnyDry studios run perc-free hydrocarbon dry cleaning on South Korean machines with German chemicals under an ISO 9001:2015 certified system (Certificate No. EU/QMS/00332, EU Certification Limited), with a care guarantee covering damage or loss up to ₹3,000 per bill.
6. The Delhi site checks, in priority order
A compact 200–300 sq ft studio widens your options a lot in a city where retail frontage is expensive. What to check, roughly in this order:
- Three-phase power, or a realistic route to getting it sanctioned. Machines and finishing equipment need it, and retrofitting is slow and costly.
- Water supply and legal drainage. A shell with both already in costs a fraction of one without.
- Ground floor, visible shopfront, on a road people already walk down. A unit inside a building loses walk-ins permanently.
- Residential density within a short drive, because households are the base; offices, salons and PGs come later as B2B accounts.
- A place to load and unload without blocking the road, and somewhere a two-wheeler can stand.
- The lease itself — commercial use permitted, a long enough lock-in to justify the fit-out, and the landlord's position on signage.
Take as long as this needs. It is the one stage where hurrying costs you for the store's whole life.
7. Licences — plan them in parallel
In general terms a store of this kind needs GST registration, registration under the Delhi Shops and Establishments Act and a trade licence from the local municipal body; a larger processing setup may also need State Pollution Control Board consent for wastewater. Run this alongside the fit-out rather than after it, and have any loan sanctioned before interiors begin.
Requirements, documents and fees differ by city and change over time. Confirm the exact list with a local chartered accountant rather than any brand's summary, this page included.
8. Know what the first year actually looks like
Three things are normal and still surprise people. Stores open roughly three-quarters laundry-led and are typically dry-clean-led by year two. There is a season — July to September is the monsoon dip, November to March the peak for woollens, coats and wedding wear. And repeat customers are the business: in AnyDry's network, around eighty per cent of a mature store's revenue comes from people who already know the store.
Next step with AnyDry
If a dry cleaning and laundry studio in Delhi is what you are weighing, ask for the numbers for your own zone: itemised setup costs, the revenue mix and a month-by-month first-year model are sent with your enquiry, followed by a short call. AnyDry is a brand of Rentia Space Pvt. Ltd.
